History: The Kromfohrländer is one of the few modern dog breeds whose origins can be precisely traced. It was developed in Germany shortly after World War II when a stray wire-haired terrier-type dog, believed to be of French descent, was adopted by a soldier and later bred with a local Fox Terrier. The result was an affectionate, adaptable, and intelligent companion breed. Officially recognized in the 1950s, the Kromfohrländer was named after the Krom Fohr region in Siegen, Germany. While still rare outside of Europe, this breed is adored by those who know it for its human-centric nature, trainability, and suitability for families, singles, and seniors alike. Whether in an apartment or a house, the Kromfohrländer thrives on close bonds and gentle leadership.
